Editing-Part 3 (Black and white)

My group had decided to have the whole opening in black and white to help support the film Noir feel to the film. To make the footage black and white, I first had to make sure that I had all of the correct footage. Once I had all of the necessary footage, I had to select effects and then open up image control. Then in that menu there was an option called desaturate, I had to click and drag it onto the selected shots. Once I had done this to all of the shots, I played the opening all the way through and was happy to see that it had worked on all of the shots.

Editing-Part 2

The first thing I chose to edit this time was the length of the individual shots because I was not satisfied with how much the viewer was able to see in each shot. I also felt that by making some shots longer it would emphasis the importance of that particular shot. This was easily done but when putting the longer shots back in it changed the time line because there was not enough space so it took a bit of time to correct it.

The Foley sound did not take up much time to do because we had to use a camera to capture the sound then we uploaded it into final cut with the rest of the footage. After I cut the sound down to just the part I wanted, and deleted the video part. I still had to delete the sound to the original shot and then match up the Foley sound to the shot. The only part that took a bit of time was when I had to carefully listen to which part of the Foley sound I felt would work best with the footage.

At this point we only had the draft of the soundtrack because the pianist was not able to record until the following week, however it still sounds pretty good. The soundtrack was put in to go with the footage, with there being none of the original sounds mainly because the is no dialogue in my thriller opening. The only problem I had with the sound track was placing in the right place so the music changes when there is changes in the footage such as when she opens her eyes. This was difficult because it required me to use trial and error to be able to do it successfully, and is also the reason it took up quite a bit of time.

Editing-Part 1

 I am editing the thriller opening using Final cut because it is an easy program to use and has good final results. The image to the left shows the screen where you go through the video clip and select which part of it you want and the length you want it. It is then dragged onto the timeline. This part of final cut is useful because it clearly shows what the final shot will look like and this can help because it lets you focus on a certain part at a time.

This shows the timeline with the video footage on the top line while sound underneath. This lets you edit the sound and video separately. I am going to put the titles in the middle of the different scenes. This will make it run smoothly and would not have any jumps between scenes

In this image it shows that I have decided to delete the sound and just leave the video footage. This is because there is no speaking and I am going to put music there to enhance the eerie atmosphere.
